Fun Fact and Tips on Travelling in Paris

Paris has always been the City of Love and I've been wanting to go there ever since I started watching romance movies. I always wanted to go there with the love of my life. However, as I grew up, I was fed with stories about how the city isn't that great and the streets are quite dirty as well. Since then, I never actually wanted to go as much.

There were mixed reviews but most of my close friends who was there didn't enjoy it that much. It was also never in my list of places to visit when I came to UK. Fate brought us together when my course requires me to take a mandatory course in Paris. I was feeling indifference and thought it was just a study trip.

This trip, change my perspective of Paris. It's indeed a beautiful city and has so much to offer. I enjoyed my short stay there and although I did not get to see much of the city, I really love the places I visited. I would definitely make a second trip if I have the chance.

We had 3 full study days and had only the Sunday to travel. The school did arrange for us a private cruise which I really enjoyed because I got to see the whole of Paris City along the Seine River. Here's a list of places and things that I did when I was there.

River Cruise Along Seine River

I would definitely recommend tourist to go for a cruise and enjoy the unique views of Paris along the Seine River. You can actually see all the iconic landmarks and top tourist spot from the cruise. All the famous museum, the Eiffel tower, Notre Dame etc. etc.

This was the cruise that they rented for the cohort feauturing my two friends

Our view at the stop for us to take the cruise. It was so gloomy that day and this was right before all hell break loose and rain started pouring an hour later.

Ahh.. the gloomy weather ruin my picture. The sky clear for awhile hence explains the mixture of photo. Anyway, thats the mini Status of Liberty.
Fun Fact : Status of Liberty was a gift from the people of France to people of United States. When I visited New York, I heard of this and now in Paris when I saw it, I wasn't confused because my guess it is a miniature of the actual.

Arc De Triomphe

One of the most famous landmarks in Paris. This arc was to honoured those who have fought and died defending France during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. We went there in the evening and at night. At night, the fire will be light up as a remembrance for those who bravely fought for France.

You have to visit this and see it for yourself. This arc is huge. I've seen picture but I've never imagine its huge. The architecture of the arc is amazing and beautiful. The name of the soldier were all engraved on the wars. If you are wondering how does it look at night, here goes..

Such a simple landmark but so much meaning and so beautiful. This is located at the western end of Champs Elysees. We were having dinner at Laudaure and hence, we were there visiting the arc and also walking on the streets.

Champs Elysees
This is a shopping street. From what I heard, if you are looking to shop, you are looking at this street and Galleries La Fayatte. They have the high street brands and luxury goods that you are looking for.
One thing I really like about this street is the decoration of the shops. They are so pretty. Classic and contemporary design.

The perks of visiting Paris on a non peak period for tourist is that you don't push around as much. If you look at the photos above, it look crowded but trust me, it can be worse during the summer. I guess probably thats the reason my friends didn't enjoy Paris. I have a friend who was here in Winter and he said Paris is much more beautiful in winter. Summer, its too hot and that why the streets are dirtier because there is so much more tourist during that time.

The Louvre Museum

This is the largest art museum in the world. When I was in Vatican, I thought the museum was already big enough and it took about 2-3 hours to explore the whole museum. Either ways, this is much better, I gotta admit. However, its too big and you'll need more than a day. A lot of people would just go in for Mona Lisa but if you have the time, take the time to appreciate all the other art there.

My tip is that if you are going for awhile, you should follow the guide book and look for the few most iconic and famous art and see it for yourself. The entrance fee for me was free because I am a student. Otherwise, it will cost you 9 euros.

TIP TO SHORTER QUEUE : go through the entrance from Porte Des Lions instead of the Pyramid. If you buy it online, you can avoid the queue but it's slightly more expensive.

THE MOST IMPORTANT ART IN THE MUSEUM.
DISCLAIMER : THIS PICTURE IS MUCH SMALLER THAN IT LOOK
I don't want to bombard the post with all the photos of art in the museum but just the important would do. In whichever angle you are at, when you stare at the Mona Lisa, she is staring back at you. I always seen in it movies but this time up close. I gotta admit I am impressed how the picture stare at you at whatever angle but wasn't impressed with the size. I never expected it to be this small. HAHA.

Effiel Tower

Our last stop was at the Effiel Tower. I really wanted to go up and get the Paris city view. If you notice, I really like travelling and going to all the Skyscraper building to get a whole view of it. By far, the best view I have is in New York.

I did not have the time to go up to the Tower but we did chill for about two hours there. Sitting down and chit chatting about life. In order to get a good view of photo, we choose to take it from Place du Trocadero. The first cover photo is the view I was getting. I am not sure why the photo is so dark. I did not edit it. Most are my photos are not edited because I want to keep it as raw as possible.

Also, don't miss the light show from the Effiel Tower. It start from sunset up to 1am in the morning. It only light up every hour after sun set and trust me its beautiful. When I was here, the people would count down together for the light show. This was also the last thing I visited in Paris.

If I had the chance to go again, I will definitely visit the Versailles Palace, Notre Dame, Paris Disneyland and La Fayatte. So much to do, so little to do. Till next time Paris.....

Highlights :
You can skip this part as this ends my travel tips in Paris. Like all my posts, I like to personalise it. This blog is my travel journal. I love to share what I've seen and tips on getting around certain places. At the same time, this is where I document down the moments that I treasured.

I got so wasted at Buddha Bar on my last night in Paris. Man.. that was bad. Couldn't even get up the next day and slept through class. I felt so bad! This was indeed a trip to remember. It was the only trip me and my close friends in Masters actually made it together. We all travelled separately throughout the course but this was the only one that we did it all together. I am glad we did it and we definitely created new memories together. Never a dull moment with them. One thing we all had common was good food. We made sure our meals were the best within our budget.

One of them has left back to Hong Kong to start his adult life and career there. There is only 3 of us left and they are trying their best to get a job here. I really hope they do because they are all I have here and my closest buddy. I do not know what would I do or what Master's would have been like without them. All our drinking nights and late night talks about life..

Till our next reunion...

Signing off!

  12. Paris is such a cool city -- in fact made up of numerous smaller communities each distinct and wonderful. So much more than the Louvre, Effiel Tower, Champs Elysees -- as wonderful as those are. Hopefully you got a chance to simply wander and enjoy the city vibe, such as in the Monmartre.
